Wyoming Parks and Tourism Highlights

Key areas: Yellowstone, Grand Teton National Parks and Devil's tower National monument.

Mt. Moran is across the Snake River and is a  part of the Grand Teton Mountains near Jackson Hole.

Devil's tower is a rock formation that is 600 ft high and rises above the Belle Fourche River on the western section of the Black Hills. Indian tribes knew it as Bears Lodge. Many tribes have some sort of legend about the monument. These tribes include the Arapahoe, Shoshone, Lakota and Cheyenne. President Theodore Roosevelt made the area a US national monument in 1906. There are wildlife and over 150 species of birds here. The tower is 867 feet tall. the top is about 1.5 acres.

Old Faithful Geyser is in Yellowstone Park and is named so because its eruptions are at regular intervals of 65 minutes or so.

Sheridan is the located of the first Dude Ranch in the west. It was established in 1904 by the Eaton brothers.

One fourth of the state's area is national parkland.

There is an Indian Reservation in the state. It is called Wind River Indian Reservation.

The Teton mountains rise from 12000 to 13000 ft around Jackson Hole.

There are large hot springs at Thermopolis and Saratoga in the Yellowstone Park area.

There are 9 national forests in Wyomin: Bighorn, Bridger, Medicine Bow, Shoshone, Teton, Black Hills, Caribou, Targhee and Wasatch.

The Rodeo is a favorite sporting event.

Rodeo is associated with the western culture. Cowboys show of their riding and roping skills. Competitions gained popularity. Buffalo Bill Cody helped increase the Rodeo's popularity through his traveling Wild West Show.

Most any town in Wyoming has a rodeo.

The Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo is one of the top 4 rodeos in the world. It is a 10 day event.

The Lander Pioneer Days Rodeo has been performing since 1893 on the July 4 weekend.

In Cody, the annual Cody Stampeded is on the 4th of July, too.
